Make Good Search Choices:

  • First, narrow your search.   Type search terms that relate closely to your topic.  Example:  green apples will be closer to what you are looking for than searching for fruits.
  • Second, is the information you found true or not?  Is it a fact, or is it fiction?  Be careful.  Don't just accept what you read as true.  Find other trusted sources that match and verify what you found.
  • Third, be honest.  If the idea, sentence, or phrase you want to include in your writing did not come from you, cite your source.  That means to include a citation in your writing of where the information came from.  That's respecting the work of other authors.  Plagiarism is when you include the writings and ideas of others and claim it as your own.
