Instructional Technology

Instructional Technology

Utilizing the lab and classroom technology resources, teachers creatively use Lau instructional technology to develop literacy and fluency. Below is a brief description of how technology supports learning and teaching at Lau.

Using technology to support learning is year round for our Lau students. Our students can access their student accounts 24/7 via the web, or on site in the lab or classroom. Lau utilizes a fully equipped computer lab where all students from grades k through 5 develop core academic skills using technology. Each class attends the lab at least one session a week. Grades 2 through 5 learn and practice keyboard literacy / typing skills for at least 15 minutes at the start of each lab session. Students continue utilizing the technology in the classroom.

The instructional technology focus aims to develop, reinforce, improve, and to enrich learning and research skills in core academic subjects while simultaneously developing comprehension and literacy in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Lexia Reading is one example of a software students use and access to develop reading. Everydaymathonline.com support and encourage student math skills in an engaging way. Google Apps Education Edition and PBworks allow students to easily collaborate, constructively comment on the writings of their classmates, and to complete digital learning projects.
